This month, i would like to share with you a little shortcut i like to use, in this case to the Dorian mode.

We are all pretty much familiar with the modes of the Major scale and even if today's subject is not to go deeper in the explanation on the modes, one thing that is really clear to me is the fact that a lot of people out there do not really understand what modes are really about..

The Dorian mode, so the second mode of the major scale is a minor scale with a perfect 9th and a perfect 6th, these two notes give to that scale a m6/9 flavour that is really beautifull!! my favourite minor scale so far.

For most people, playing the CM7 scale would do the job.. well not really!! it is really important to know where are the real colors and what they are!! these 9th and 6th in this case combined with minor 7th and 3rd is all you need to know about the dorian sound..

So instead of playing the entire scale..let's only play the important notes!! If we look closer at what we need, we'll find out that the Em pentatonic has all the notes we need...

How it Works..
